Chanel Pre-Fall 2013 Collection Research

Chanel Pre-Fall 2013 Collection

Mist was swirling. Snow was beginning to fall. The wind drove sparks from burning wood braziers high into the freezing December night. The scene was a Chanel homecoming of sorts, a show that dramatized Coco Chanel’s lifelong romance with tweed, tartan, and cashmere, played out in the courtyard of Linlithgow Palace, birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. “I like the emotion of it,” said Karl Lagerfeld. “This is about the queen of fashion and the Queen of Scotland—who was also French, you know.”

This was wrote on the vogue website and sets the senses for this collection extremely well. When looking at this collection the hair really stood out to me the most because of the high beehive look at the front. This shows a slight Elizabethan style to it, which I really like. From the photo’s it also looks slightly textured, maybe crimped or waved. This textured effect on the hair when put up makes it stand out.

It also drew me in by the colour of the models hair because a lot of them have very ginger hair or hints of ginger in the hair, which stood out to me because this reflects Elizabethan times extremely well.

After looking through this collection it has given me a few ideas for designs because I really like the way the hair has either been crimped or waved and then put up into a dome shape, I think I will use this maybe to create a bun style because I think the crimped effect on the buns would stand out with my own hair colour.
I also really love the use of plaits at the front of the head becuase from researching the Elizabethans they used to think the bigger your forehead was the more intellegant you were and i think using plaits at the front of the hair maybe creates a higher hair line which could work really well in my final design.
