Elizabethan Hair Style

Elizabethan Hair Style

In this lesson we were given the task to come up with an Elizabethan hair style. I decided to choose a technique we had learnt in our technical lesson with Lottie called zig zagging which is a way of crimping the hair. You get a really nice defined crimped effect from this.
I also decided I was going to do an Elizabethan style beehive look on top with the crimped hair and then a long plait at the back of the hair because my model has very thick and long hair so thought I would focus on the top of her hair more than the back as it would be very time consuming to curl or crimp the back of the hair.
I started off by sectioning the front of the hair off to start the zig zagging technique which I done all over the front section of hair.
I then brushed out all the crimped bits of hair with a paddle brush, this gave a lot of volume to the crimped part of the hair. I then got the section behind the crimped parts and started to back comb it because it was going to be placed under the crimped parts so you wouldn't see the straight hair underneath but just needed to put some volume into it.
Under this I also used a prop because the hair is so long and heavy it needed some support so I used the prop and wrapped the hair round it then secured it to the head with some grips. I then used some of the pins to move the hair around and make sure there was no gaps where you could see the prop.
At the back I done a Dutch Braid which is just a revers of a normal plait but putting the sections of hair under each other instead of on top.
Over all I really like this hair design I would have liked to do more with the back of the hair but I ran out of time as we only had an hour before our next lesson once we started. The crimping at the front is quite time consuming using that technique so I don't think I will use this technique for my assessment as it takes far to long to create. If I had more time I would have maybe done two plaits going down the back and then maybe wrapped them around each other to create some sort of bun as I think this would work really well with the length of the models hair.
